Revitalized Medvedev Claims First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.
Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.
The win also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in Halle in the past months.
His retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.
Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved service.
The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.
The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.
He defended 4 early break points in a tight final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
